Reducing pollution with a Water Fuelled Car

Using conventional gasoline to run a car damages the environment, because when gasoline is burnt by the combustion process in the engine it releases a huge amount of waste products such as nitrogen oxides, volatile organic hydrocarbons, and carbon monoxide, which are all emitted from the car through the exhaust system. These emissions distribute into the atmosphere and cause air pollution, which has been targeted as a prime generator of smog and acid rain. Air pollution is damaging to natural ecosystems and can pose a serious health risk to humans causing respiratory problems and seizures. Exposure to highly concentrate amounts of gasoline emissions from cars can also be lethal.

There are various ways of cutting down on emissions produced from cars. Hybrid cars are becoming more popular, which reduce the amount of petrol needed by supplementing it with an alternative fuel source. The most common hybrid cars currently on the market are those that combine a regular gasoline engine with an electric motor. The electric motor is used when the vehicle is travelling in traffic at low speeds, and the petrol engine only kicks in when the battery is running low, or higher speeds are needed on open roads. As the gasoline engine is used to recharge the battery, these new model hybrid designs to not need to be charged from an external socket, and virtually no carbon monoxide and other harmful gases are emitted when the car is running on the electric motor.

Water fuelled cars are also hybrid cars, but currently this technology has not been commercially utilised. You cannot power a car on the energy extracted from water alone and so like the electric hybrid cars, a regular gasoline engine is still needed. In water fuelled cars an electrolysis system is used to extract HHO from a tank of water, which is then fed into the carburettors/manifold. This then has the effect of reducing the amount of gasoline burnt, by reacting with the fuel to cause it to vaporise into smaller particles. This creates a leaner fuel/air mix and so reduces fuel wastage and in turn reduces emissions.

Also using a water fuel supplement means that the engine is running at a lower temperature, which reduces the amount of nitrogen oxides that are released as a part of the combustion process. The higher the temperature you burn gasoline at, the more harmful gases are released.
